'Flashpoint' is a team simulation exercise that asks a group to evaluate a serious and violent crisis that has arisen in the ficticious country of Kordan. The team's role is to act as the United Nations Security Council and identify the best intervention strategy out of seven supplied alternatives (and rank all seven in preferred order).
Individuals in this exercise are asked to make personal sense of the described situation, and then work as a team to identify optimal solutions.
During the discussions, they will have the opportunity to use a number of different competencies in the following areas:
• Critical thinking
• Negotiating/conflict resolution
• Teambuilding
• Problem solving
• Decision-making
• Communication
This simulation takes between 1.5 and 2.5 hours to complete (depending on how much time the facilitator allows) and is extremely valuable to run as an experiential learning exercise as part of a leadership or teambuilding program, strategic planning session or overall business improvement meeting.
